I went to Norway Mountain the other day to ski it up.

I had to reaquaint myself with a snowboard. Since it was my first time out.

The BEST part of the venture was that I got my wife to come along, and THIS TIME, got her to take lessons.

If you don't know, my wife is DEATHLY afraid of skiing due to an accident she had in middle school or something. Her best friend took her out skiing and told her she didn't need lessons. Her friend did what she could to teach Kristen how to ski in probably five minutes or less.

To make a long story short. They went down a trail at Brule called Timberdoodle (which at the time was not a rated trail) and is now classified as a double back diamond trail. It is very narrow, winding and hilly. Definately not something for a begginer to be on. On this trail she lost control, went into a tree, and it ripped at her braces.

Since then, we had her out one other time, and she didn't enjoy herself. Probably because again, she didn't take lessons.

I signed her up for a personal lesson.

Getting our gear at the rental department she told me she was on the verge of crying because she was so nervous and scared. She didn't though.

After her lesson she was able to ski on all the beginner trails, and I'm sure she could have taken on the easiest of the novice trails (but she didn't attempt that one).

She did have fun, and at the end wanted to keep skiing. I was extremely happy that she enjoyed herslef since I will be patroling there in winter and with this discovery she may want to join me a few times a year instead of griping that this is another thing that take away from her "joe time".

My friend Lee purchased skis. He enjoyed it so much that he wants get a season pass and go once a week. He is good for not skiing in years! So, he wants to be able to ski on the black diamond hills, and maybe to do tricks in the terrain park in a year or two.

I didn't attempt the terrain park until the end of my runs. I wanted to make sure I could snowboard down the steeper of the novice trails first. Once I was confident there I took a few jumps in the terrain park. Didn't fall... but I didn't do anything neat either.

I had much fun, and it was good to get out once for fun and getting my berings before starting to patrol.

It is great
I think it is great as well. I guess since I really enjoy it that is.

I guess there isn't really any good places to ski in Austraila, or are there?

Re: It is great
Oh yes, we have some of the best skiing places in the world (apparently). But they are all over on the other side of the country. The West side doesn't get much snow and we don't have any mountains to ski down... I don't think we get enough for skiing.

But I know Melbourne has some nice places :)

Melbourne probably has lots better than what I ski on.
